Why choose a Hobie Kayak for Fishing?
Kayak Angling is one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK. Many anglers have taken to kayak fishing to enable them to reach the better fishing sports away from the shore as well as experiencing the joy and adventure of getting out on the water. At the competitive level, the sport is now dominated by Hobie kayaks. With a full calendar of kayak fishing competitions in both fresh and saltwater, there are plenty of opportunities to get a taste of competitive fishing. Hobie kayakers are well supported at these events by Shore Thing/Hobie Centre and the UK Hobie Fishing Team that they sponsor.

The reasons why Hobie Kayaks are so good!
Propulsion – If you have ever tried fishing from a kayak with a paddle, you will know the pitfalls of trying to man-handle the paddle and rod. The Hobie Mirage drive is one of the best-engineered most efficient propulsion systems on the market. The main advantage is that it leaves your hands to do what they do best – catch fish! Hobie beats the competition in several different ways. The drive is very efficient – effort in = big rewards and you could pedal all day without tiring or pulling muscles. The forward and back motion of the mirage drive is much kinder to your hips than a circular pedal motion and the kick-up Mirage pedal drive takes the worry out of hitting shallow water. For full details of all of the types of MirageDrive available take a look at our article ‘Which MirageDrive?’
Stability– Hobie Kayaks are so stable that you can stand up to reel in or sight fish. They will also withstand you dragging onboard even the largest of specimens.
Accessories – There was a time when kayak anglers spent a good deal of their time adapting their kayaks and adding accessories through lengthy and time-consuming DIY, just so that they could take the necessary fishing gear aboard. The designers at Hobie have spent the last 20 years designing kayaks that are perfectly suited to catching fish with everything where it should be – within easy reach. You can easily accessorise your Hobie kayak exactly as you want it; accessories can be installed that suit your particular fishing style. We are happy to guide you through the process of customising your kayak, and we offer a free installation service on new Hobie Kayaks.
Reliability and comfort – Hobie is a premium product with good reason – you get what you pay for! There is very little time wasted preparing or servicing your kayak. Rinsing with fresh water and storing under a cover is as far as you need to go. If you have not tried Hobie’s amazingly comfortable Vantage seats, then you certainly need to give it a go. You can comfortably spend all day out on the water, and best of all, your bottom will remain dry! As a Hobie dealer of 22 years, we are happy to offer advice, support and spare parts where required helping to keep you where you should be out on the water! There is also a healthy second-hand market for used Hobies, and if you are looking to upgrade your boat. We are always happy to accept a trade-in kayak against the purchase of a new boat.
Support from your Hobie Dealer – The back up and support of your local Hobie Dealer will help to keep you on the water and catching. Whatever accessories or support you need we are on the end of the phone and our sponsored Hobie Fishing Team support events around the country.
